Averry Cafe & Bar, Sydney Eats, DinnerSydney-siders most likely will have heard of Avery Cafe, with their signature pink lighting and super cutely decked out space, complete with cushions and pink panther plushies. By day it’s a cafe, a trendy brunch spot in the CBD, but by night it transforms into a bar, with a sophisticated cocktail menu and dinner options to pair.

We’re here for dinner, and although the lack of natural lighting means that the it’s more neon pink that we’d imagined, it’s not stopping the many diners from taking selfies with the beautiful backdrop and food!

Yayoi Westfield Sydney, CBD

Sydneysiders who love Japanese food will no doubt have tried Yayoi. For those in need of an introduction, it’s a restaurant chain that’s come from Japan, where they already have in excess of 300 restaurants. So it’s no surprise that it was quite popular when they first landed in Australia.

I first visited their Yayoi Galeries branch when they were newly opened and the wait was excessively long. And though the crowds have died down, as they do, the beautiful presentation of the food an standout freshness is reason enough for me to make a visit from time to time. So when I received an invite from FCBA Australia to try out their newly opened branch in Westfield Sydney, I was only too eager to go!

Although the menu is largely the same between their different branches, there are some slight differences. And one big drawcard for the new Westfield location is their Umeshu (Japanese Plum Wine) offerings. If plum wine is your thing, you’ll definitely wanting to make a visit soon. Even if it’s not, you’ll want to check out their extensive umeshu menu- you’ll probably even find a new favourite!

Chef’s Gallery, Town Hall

If you have ever been to Town Hall, you would no doubt have walked past Chef’s Gallery. With it’s big glass windows showcasing the mastery of their well trained noodle chefs, it’s quite hard to miss, as they transform their pieces of dough into beautiful strands of noodles. There’s something particularly mesmerising about the process, the speed at which a thick piece of dough becomes elongated and multiplies right before your eyes.

I’ve always wanted to learn how to make noodles myself, so when the opportunity came up to attend a short noodle making masterclass with chefs at Chef’s Gallery, I didn’t hesitate to sign myself up.

To avoid the bustling crowds, visit in the morning just past opening and you’ll find yourself in a pretty quiet restaurant (it doesn’t take long for the restaurant to fill up though!). There are usually only a handful of seats by the kitchen where you can watch the action, however there’s no need to fight over a nice spot today, with the chef wheeling the cart over to pull his noodles right in front of us.

I haven’t been doing many restaurant reviews lately and if I’m being honest, it’s because I’ve been really lazy with taking photos and write ups. But if there’s one thing that’s worth writing about it’s ramen- so when our latest ramen cravings kicked in and brought us to Yasaka Ramen, I made sure I lugged that camera along with me!

Jumak (Drunken Rice), Town Hall

When the Korean food cravings kick in, I’m glad I’m in Sydney, where I’m spoilt for choice with plenty of good Korean restaurants everywhere. And my latest Korean food adventures take me to Jumak, one of my favourite hole in the wall joints in Sydney. Located in one of the alleys off George Street, it makes up for its discreet location with bright Christmas lights and large lit-up menus of their menu.

The restaurant is bigger than it appears at the front, with multiple levels and plenty of large tables for groups. We love the service button on each table which sets off a loud doorbell like noise- saves us from trying to catch the attention of the busy waitstaff as they’re rushing about.
