Having spent the first 10 or so years of my life growing up in the west, Lone Star was always known to me as that funky looking house we drove past on the way to the shops. Not that I’d ever set foot in this Texas-inspired restaurant, but I can never forget its unique exterior. So when I realised there was another branch just 10 minutes away from work, I was keen to give it a go.
Wild West Wind Beer Battered Onion Rings ($7.95)
A quick online search tells me that Lone Star was actually once large chain with 180+ stores in the US, now dwindled down to 4. And although Lone Star has also closed many doors in Australia, it seems to be doing better, with some 8 branches in NSW- including the Blacktown branch that I remember clearly.
Saucy Biddy ‘Chicken’ Wings ($9.95 for 6)
The Winter weather has well and truly arrived. And as much as I loathe cold wintery mornings, it does mean perfect weather for hot pot!

We’re loving the abundance of hot pot options that have popped up over the past couple of years. One of the newcomers in this area is Yuan’s Hot Pot. And because hot pot is not complete without good company, we’re here with a group of fellow passionate foodies that is the FCBA for a delicious lunch feed. And we sure left feeling satisfied!
For those of us hanging out in the ‘burbs, it’s not often that we get up to anything exciting after work- we don’t get the luxury of walking out of the office on Friday night, straight into the night life like the city dwellers! So when Left of Field announced their ‘Queen’s Feast’, a dinner collab with N2 Gelato, we couldn’t get out hands on those tickets quickly enough!We’re used to Left of Field by day, but with Queen tunes blaring out of speakers, and a dinner set up complete with tablecloths and blankets, it’s a completely different vibe at night!

Sydneysiders who love Japanese food will no doubt have tried Yayoi. For those in need of an introduction, it’s a restaurant chain that’s come from Japan, where they already have in excess of 300 restaurants. So it’s no surprise that it was quite popular when they first landed in Australia.
I first visited their Yayoi Galeries branch when they were newly opened and the wait was excessively long. And though the crowds have died down, as they do, the beautiful presentation of the food an standout freshness is reason enough for me to make a visit from time to time. So when I received an invite from FCBA Australia to try out their newly opened branch in Westfield Sydney, I was only too eager to go!
Although the menu is largely the same between their different branches, there are some slight differences. And one big drawcard for the new Westfield location is their Umeshu (Japanese Plum Wine) offerings. If plum wine is your thing, you’ll definitely wanting to make a visit soon. Even if it’s not, you’ll want to check out their extensive umeshu menu- you’ll probably even find a new favourite!
