Qube on Bay, Ultimo

One of my favourite dessert flavours is black sesame, so when I found out Qube on Bay was bringing back their Black Sesame French toast, I was super keen to try.

The location, just a short walk across from Broadway shopping centre, has left me wishing that it had opened just a couple of years earlier when I was still in uni. I’m guessing it probably gets quite busy during the uni semester, but on Saturday afternoon it’s not nearly as packed as I had imagined.

Hulu at King Street Wharf

It sounds like a bit of an odd thing to say, but I’ve been waiting for Hulu to open up for a while. Two years actually.

Whilst most people probably know of Hulu at King Street Wharf for its social media presence since it opened a few months ago, I’ve been a fan since they first opened as Bistro Hulu on Liverpool Street. So much so that when I worked as a tour guide for food tours in Sydney, I was one of our first stops.

Chicken & Sweet Corn Soup ($6.8)

Bistro Hulu still exists in Crow’s Nest, but Hulu at King Street Wharf is their latest venture, a more upscale venue with a beautiful view of the harbour. And of course, I had to visit!

The menu itself is impressively extensive, including a handmade dim sum section that spans four pages. You could literally just order off the dim sum options for a yum cha style meal if you wanted!

And we’re loving the creativity with the unexpected addition of cheese in the crispy prawn dumplings, making for a satisfying cheese pull.

Mango Sponge Cake

Mango Sponge Cake

As summer well and truly over, mango season has sadly come to an end. And although it’s sad to say goodbye, I’m pleased to report that we did make the most while they were around!

Mango Sponge Cake

And yes, this included making plenty of mango desserts!

Our summer staple is our favourite mango pudding, a recipe we’ve used for years and years. It’s a simple mixture of mango jelly powder, evaporated milk and mango chunks. But for something a little more extravagant looking, this classic Asian bakery mango sponge cake is my pick! (probably because it’s the cake that I always wanted but couldn’t get because my birthday isn’t anywhere near summer)
