When it comes to high tea in Sydney, you can’t go past the high tea experience at The Tea Room in QVB. Tucked away in the top corner of the QVB building, it’s a fancy setting complete with pretty floral tableware, nice comfy cushioned chairs and excellent service.
The regular high tea will set you back $55 per person, and for that price you’ll get plenty of food. Two three tiered stands of it in fact!
We’re impressed with the savoury starters, of which we get a plate each, a selection of three small bites. Our favourite is the spinach and gruyère cheese pastry.
Scones are very substantial in size. They are nice and moist and go well with the accompanying jam and cream.
Sandwiches are not so exciting, the selection including your classic fillings like chicken, ham and cheese.
We find the desserts to be a tad on the sweet side, especially the blueberry cake. The caramel mousse a little burnt tasting.
The lemon meringue tart is our favourite though, the tartness of the lemon cutting through the sweet.
One of my favourite dessert flavours is black sesame, so when I found out Qube on Bay was bringing back their Black Sesame French toast, I was super keen to try.
The location, just a short walk across from Broadway shopping centre, has left me wishing that it had opened just a couple of years earlier when I was still in uni. I’m guessing it probably gets quite busy during the uni semester, but on Saturday afternoon it’s not nearly as packed as I had imagined.
It’s great to see how far the cafe scene in the Hills grown in the past couple of years, and whilst there’s plenty of new cafes to try, one that remains a local favourite is The Local Trade. It’s location next to the playground makes it a popular spot for family’s and it’s buzzing when we pop in for a quick brunch on Sunday morning.
Sydney-siders most likely will have heard of Avery Cafe, with their signature pink lighting and super cutely decked out space, complete with cushions and pink panther plushies. By day it’s a cafe, a trendy brunch spot in the CBD, but by night it transforms into a bar, with a sophisticated cocktail menu and dinner options to pair.
We’re here for dinner, and although the lack of natural lighting means that the it’s more neon pink that we’d imagined, it’s not stopping the many diners from taking selfies with the beautiful backdrop and food!
