You won’t find Allegra Dining unless you’re looking for it.
Tucked away in the back corner of a small cute complex on Danks Street it’s hidden from the street but walk a little deeper and you’ll strike gold at Allegra Dining. On most days, you’ll find this Italian restaurant on break during the day but the recent addition of their Sunday brunch menu means that you can now also enjoy coffee, eggs and other delicious food during daylight hours too.
But by brunch, don’t think of your typical busy Surry Hills style kind of brunch with long queues, short stools, small tables and crowded spaces- instead it’s a much more relaxed vibe, a spacious setting with plenty of natural light and if you’re lucky, a view of the (not for swimming) pool that sits in the middle of the complex. It’s an unexpectedly nice enclosed space, tastefully decked out with palm trees and cactus, and if cocktails by the pool are your thing, Allegra can do that too- they even have a breakfast cocktail menu!

Living somewhere with minimal public transport, I do like to scout out local eats because not having to travel far always makes the day so much less tiring. When it comes to cafes, there’s only a handful around me that I regularly go back to so when Moss Bros Dessert & Brunch Cafe opened I was super keen to give it a go.
It’s located on the main strip of Rouse Hill Town Centre, a large space which once housed a chocolate cafe which was pretty much the only dessert option in the complex. Moss Bros is a much welcomed upgrade from the previous occupant though, just take a look at their stunning cake display and you’ll understand why.
Lazy weekend mornings mean that
- We cannot be bothered making anything nice for breakfast and;
- We cannot be bothered traveling far for breakfast
And so you’ll most likely catch us at our usual local favourites on a Saturday/Sunday morning. Unless it’s a day like this, where we turn up to our usual local café only to find it packed and rather than waiting on hungry stomachs for a table, we venture over to the neighboring (even more popular) café to try our luck….and get lucky!
Which is how we end up at the Baron this fateful Saturday morning.
We’re a month into summer, and though the temperamental Sydney weather has left me not knowing whether I should be bringing warm or cold lunches, I’m preparing myself with some lighter salad recipes for the scorchers.
And of course, what’s a summer without some fruity salads?
